I create clear, compelling content for print and online publications, publishers and charities.
As an NCTJ-qualified journalist I’m experienced in generating ideas and carrying out detailed research as part of my love of finding – and telling – a really good story. I’ve written about all sorts of wide-ranging subjects over the years, from the classic “cat up a tree” type story for local papers, through to restaurant reviews and food sustainability issues for The Guardian to more dramatic international social justice and environmental features on logging in Honduras, the plight of sex workers in El Salvador and child labour in Peru.
As a proofreader and copyeditor I’m thorough, attentive and eagle-eyed – a proper word nerd and grammar geek – so I rarely miss errant commas, mischievous misspellings or trickster typos. I’m also a CELTA-qualified teacher of English as a Second Language and have taught students of all levels and ages, purely for the love of drilling down into the nuts and bolts of English to better understand and convey the whys and wherefores of the words we choose to use here in the UK. Who doesn’t love an idiom?
My communication skills have also been deployed within various charities, where I’ve managed busy production schedules, polished key messages, refined mission materials and driven forward press and PR to secure national media coverage.
